Better Brains via Exercise, Diet, Thinking, and Friendship

^z8th August 2025 at 2:20pm

The July 2025 Washington Post article "Want to keep your brain sharp as you age? Science may have a recipe." is based on recently-published analysis "Structured vs Self-Guided Multidomain Lifestyle Interventions for Global Cognitive Function: The US POINTER Randomized Clinical Trial". It provides evidence in favor of a few powerful-yet-commonsense approaches to maintaining long-term mental health:

  • "regular moderate- to high-intensity physical exercise" — aerobic exercise, resistance training, stretching, and balance work
  • "adherence to the MIND diet" — the Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay
  • "cognitive challenge" — exercises to help stimulate attention, brain speed, memory, people skills, navigation, and intelligence
  • "social engagement" — friendships, meetings, etc

... in Toki Pona, perhaps something like:

pali sijelo
moku pona
pali lawa
pali kulupu

toki pona rough translation
pali sijeloworking the body
moku ponaeating well
pali lawaworking the mind
pali kulupubuilding community
